                                                                        The Curate's Line

Why is this site called ‘the curate's line’?

My name is Garratt, I’m tracing my Garratt line.

My ancestors came from Crick and West Haddon in Northamptonshire, and Rowley Regis, Old Hill and Netherton in Staffordshire.

We can trace them back through Thomas Garratt, curate at Rowley Regis Staffordshire, and Studley Warwickshire, to his father, also Thomas Garratt who was a farmer in West Haddon, Northamptonshire, and to John Garrett and Richard Garrett of Crick, Northamptonshire, and from here through the Garrards and Gerards to a possible mention in the Domesday Book of 1086.

If you’re a Rowley Regis or Netherton Garratt, or your ancestors were descended from them
then it stands a chance that the curate is in your line.

I could have named the site ‘the Garratt line’ or similar, but Thomas Garratt,
as a curate, left a lot of documentary evidence, he was the first Garratt in Rowley Regis
and founded our Garratt line.

So ‘the curate's line’.
